RS1500/- LAPTOP BY INDIAN GOVT...TO "STUDENTS"

The govt of india finally did something that the students would love to hear!!!
They are providing us with Tablet PC(something like a mini laptop) for a price of just rs 1500/- (i.e. $35)
It was announced long back bu i doubted if the news will appear saying "tablet pc cancelled by govt and funds returned" kinda headline!! But to my suprise nothing like that happened!!
It can be used for  Zip-Unzip feature, PDF Reader, SciLab,multimedia content(photos, videos etc) , OpenOffice(its in linux just like M.S.Offfice of windows os) and a browser for social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace .
Evrything is perfect except nothing about gaming has been announced...we dont yet know if we can do some good gaming on it!!!
It all seems too good to be comin at a price of 1500 but the limitation is only to students and lecturers...
(Thats not a big problem for outsiders to obtain though...lol!!!)
The specifications are as follows:
Display: Touch Screen
Keyboard: Built in
RAM: 2GB
Connectivity: Wifi, USB
Operating System: Linux
Power: 2 watt

The feature that caught my eye most id the power...It uses only 2 watt so it can operate even in places where power supply is low!!!
Where to buy it??? Yeah the main question....no need to search for buying...These will be distrubeted amoung all institutions by HRD govt!
Its planned to launch by the end of 2011!!!
Turns out to be good news to all those who dint yet buy a laptop and a little disappoting one for those who did!!
We should still wait and see for its release as i doubt it!!

Apple iPhone 3G price just 19,990????~!!!!!

Apple is taking Android devices head-on and has now brought down the iPhone 3G S price to Rs. 19,990/ competing directly with several Android devices in that range.
iPhone 3GS Price in India
iPhone 3GS in India
In India, iPhone 3G S was launched in March of 2010 and the price of iPhone 3G S in India was Rs 35,500 (16GB) and Apple has now slashed the price by 15K [via, a tweet from mahesh Telecom].
As per Apple, iPhone 3G S will support iOS5 (beta 2, though not all features will be supported).
So where does that leave Nexus S and several other HTC/Samsung based Android devices? fyi: [Nexus S price in India is also, 19,900/].
So would you go for Android devices like Nexus S, HTC Desire or iPhone 3G S?

Facebook Automatically Tagging your face

Face book announced that it will soon start automatically suggesting your name for tagging photos any time it thinks it recognizes you in a picture. This automatic facial recognition is the default and will be done unless you explicitly opt out.
It looks like you need to customize your privacy settings to disable this. In Facebook, look under the “account” menu and select “Privacy Settings”.
From there click the “Customize settings” link at the bottom of the table. Within there, look for ”Suggest photos of me to friends”, and set it to “Disabled”.
I suspect that few people will simply stumble on that.
Other people tagging you in photos can lead to embarrassment you might want to avoid. Having your name suggested just makes that more likely.
While you are at it, you might want to change the setting that allows others to “check you in” to locations. That can tell thieves you are away from home or stalkers where to find you.

Apple ipad 2- engineering student affordable..

Apple products are generally like diamonds to most engineering or similar age group k students.... thats "NOT AFFORDABLE",,...
But after the launch of apple ipad 2 it seems so much really affordable to everyone...
Its cheaper than a good laptop for a middle class student who would  spend around 30,000 on his laptop...(mostly cse though)...But its not a lappy
It is a gadget...cannot replac a lappy but then who doesnt want a super gadget at that price!!!
I personally am not a big fan of apple products due to their high price and availability of same features on different reliable brands of far low prices...
But this one....phew!!! the ultimate gadget everyone would love to have!!!!
Felt it so good and so mesmerizing due to mostly the cost and ofcourse the awesome features at that cost...its just "27000" thats less than a good lappy buddies!!
All features are available here
The  features that hooked my attention are
1.The 10 hour battery life..
2.The multi touch feature
3.Awesome camera and a smart cover that i've been waitin for
4.ios4- World's most advanced mobile operating system

The super fast graphics are the most attractive part to gamers..Also faster graphics help applications perform better.

Coming to the camera part ,It has two cameras...one in front and other in the back...Though they look tiny they make a big deal.!!
It’s HD, so whatever you shoot is a mini-masterpiece. And you can take wacky snapshots in Photo Booth. It’s the most fun a face can have. ;-)

Display- its 9.7 inches of high resolution for images videos and anything and everythin that yuo wanna see..
LED backlighting makes everything you see remarkably crisp, vivid, and bright. Even in places with low light, like an airplane. And there’s no wrong way to hold iPad. It’s designed to show off everything in portrait and landscape,
The 3g services add as up like the topping on a pizza...thats the main part... But unfortunately they are to be subscribed seperately!!! Whats that now???
Yeay~!!! When you get do so many goods there should be atleast few draawbacks(nazar naa lagjaaye!!!)

Remaining all features are basic features which you can expect in an apple product..
Finally SteveJobs caught the idea in wind to increase apple sales -"Less cost more features" mantra to awesome increase in sales amoung indian youth!!!

Facebook piggybacking on twitter??

Yesterday i made many tweets and tweet replies to people of a recent blog post of mine. Within 2 hours i had more than 200 hits but when i go to referring sites under stats, i find that facebook is on top at 10 and seesmic has 1, twitter 4 and twitlonger 2. I used twitlonger for longer tweets and was using seesmic client on my android.

It let me thinking that what is happening. Then i saw what's happening: when you use the twitter app on fb or any other twitter app, it pulls your tweets to fb. Due to lower server loads compared to twitter, fb is becoming a top referrer. May be twitter doesn't if u tweet same link to multiple people?  But it was interesting to observe this.

Bollywood music piracy & Google music India

Sometime back Google launched an online Bollywood music service called Google Music India. On opening the site, I was curious about the licensing issues etc being from a background where I had read about software and music industry patents, DRM, etc. I asked Glyn Moody, the famous tech blogger and journalist, and he told me about such things existing in China. In fact I'm writing this article inspired by him.

It was almost 2 months back. Then I found that Google had partnered with saavn.com, an Indian site providing legal streaming music( Google won't do illegal business obviously! ). Now though, it has 2 more partners:  in.com & Saregama, a music company that dominated the market earlier under the mane HMV(His Master's Voice). Now Google music India also provides Telugu music, in addition to Hindi music.

I am yet confused about the license issues and treaties it has with the music industry, but yeah, having streaming music free will only drive up album sales as they don't get to download it, still get to "sample it". You like it and then buy it, much like what bookshops provide.

On the other hand you have some piracy sites, the most popular being Songs.pk. In Pakistan, due to certain anti-Indian sentiments, you have a host of piracy sites catering to Bollywood audience. Another reason is the oppressive regime in Pakistan that doesn't let all movies be released etc, that leads them to pirate it. Songs.pk and similar sites surprisingly draw ads from even famous Indian potential advertisers like Amity University. The funniest part is that sites like apniISP.com get ads from distributors of the movies whose content they are pirating( most probably due to advertising distributors' agencies): look at the screenshot here--

Screen shot-- notice the ad by EROS for its new movie Challo Dilli

Only time will tell what dominates, but definitely Google made the plunge at just the right time, as now the bandwidth is appreciable good in India and has a good per capita internet usage.

Your Mobile phone will replace your cash and credit cards!! [NFC 101]

This is what you will be able to do with your mobile phone by 2013-2014:clip_image002
  • Very soon, rather than swiping your credit card, just wave your phone at a payment terminal when you shop.
  • Use your mobile for paying your train / bus pass, while shopping or any place where you use your credit and debit card.
  • Your mobile phone would act as credit or debit card, a subway pass and perhaps, even a movie ticket.
  • Business owners can use this Near Field Communication technology (called as NFC) for reading tags for inventory management.
  • When you meet your friend and want some information from his phone simply activate NFC feature and transfer loads of information in matter of minutes.
  • NFC lets mobile device owners wave a phone over a short-range wireless receiver or tap the device to make a purchase.

NFC: A Primer

NFC is a newer wireless mobile technology that allows devices to communicate with each other over short distances.  These devices can be 2 mobile phones, a mobile phone and payment terminal or rather they can be any two devices where NFC chip is installed. Data transfer between the devices occurs through one of two means: either a short wave or, as is more common, a touch or tap.

NFC : Use Cases

Near frequency communication is used in three modes, each mode has different use cases
1. Card emulation: the NFC device behaves like an existing contactless card
Example use case: Mobile ticketing: Mobile Phone Boarding Pass.
2. Reader mode: the NFC device is active and reads a passive RFID tag, for example for interactive advertising.
Example use case: Debit/credit payment card. Smart poster: the device used to read RFID tags on outdoor billboards.
3. P2P mode: two NFC devices communicating together and exchanging information.
Example use case: Alternative to Bluetooth pairing, just bring 2 mobile near to each other.

NFC: When is it coming?

  • The practice is widespread in Japan and has gained momentum in Europe, but adoption in the U.S. has been slow moving but steadily catching pace.
  • MasterCard’s PayPass already uses NFC and any cell phone that has NFC can use MasterCard PayPass.

Current Status of NFC Implementationclip_image007

- Samsung S5230 NFC,
- Google Nexus
- Nokia C7-00
-  Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of RIM, confirmed the company’s plans to include NFC in its devices at the Mobile World Congress in February 2011.
- 2012 Olympics in London will be the first major event where mobile payment systems using NFC will be used for ticketing purposes.
- 53% of smartphones by 2015 would be NFC enabled and this technology would be more secure than physical debit/credit cards.

Mobile technology is going to get more exciting!

· Your mobile phone is going to a get more valuable because it would be used as alternative to cash and any type of cards along with chatting and SMSing your friends.
· The power of mobile computing is going to re-define the way we do things today and improve them superbly.
